Antique Hutch Makeover

When we lived in Georgia, I purchased a hutch from one of my favorite antique shops for only $100. I put the hutch in our living room and used it as a shelf for our DVD/Blu-Ray collection. I've found that whenever we move, we have to figure out how to fit all our furniture in our new home, so the hutch ended up being in the kids' playroom, which is attached to the living room. When I bought the hutch, it was black, but now that it's in the playroom, I decided it definitely needed to be brightened up with some color! So I finally got around to painting it.
the hutch in the playroom before I painted it...
At first, I started painting the hutch Aqua and Antique White. I considered leaving the drawers and cabinet doors black. But I decided that this was not enough color. So....
I went to the store and found some Maize (yellow) paint. I painted the back of the hutch, drawers, and cabinet doors with the Maize paint. This project required several layers of paint, so I worked on it for about a week.
After I was done painting, my husband and I put the knobs and drawer pulls back on.
Here's a closer look at one of the drawer pulls. They're not the original pulls that were on when I bought the hutch. I saw these online and loved them.
While I was putting the decor, coloring books, toys, and artwork back in the hutch, my son decided to climb inside the cabinet!
BEFORE | AFTER

I noticed that the playroom looked more open with the hutch on a different wall than I had it on before. Now the playroom is ready for play!

I think the hutch looks so much better since it's more colorful, and it looks bright and cheery in the kids' playroom. However, when I get a bigger craft room...
