This month I've joined my blogging friends for the September Upcycle Challenge. For this challenge, my friends and I are creating upcycle projects with fabric. One of my favorite fabrics to work with is denim! I just love denim, so I decided to take a pair of my son's old overalls that he outgrew awhile ago to create a fun denim bag. I haven't sewn anything in a couple years, so it was fun to dust off my old sewing machine.
These overalls were only worn by my son a couple times. They're size 2T, and my big boy now wears a 5T or 4/5, so he outgrew these overalls awhile ago. After searching Pinterest for inspiration, I found a Moschino Denim Overall Backpack Purse that was a bag that still looked very much like overall shorts.
First, I cut off the legs of the pants. I rolled them up to make a cuff and stitched it in place.
I cut up the legs to stitch together to form the backpack straps.
I removed the ends of the straps with the overall hook thingies...
I hand stitched this part together. I left the small opening because I thought it would be cool to use this as a crochet project bag for projects on the go. I can feed the yarn through this hole!
After I sewed a couple long strips, I added the ends with the buckles.
I sewed the end of the straps under the back pockets.
I used denim scraps to add a loop to hang the bag.
I also added a couple belt loops to the front.
the back side...
I decided it would be fun to add my stash of pins to this bag...
And yep... I added all the pins! 😁
I didn't stitch up the sides, so that it would be easy to put a couple skeins of yarn inside the bag. (I'm currently working on a Crochet Bacon & Eggs Scarf). This was a really fun project to create, and I look forward to using it while waiting in the parent line to pick up my kiddos from school.
Thank so much for checking out my upcycle project! Please scroll below to check out the projects created by the other blog hop hosts!
