Organizing My Craft Room

Welcome to the first Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop of 2020, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month's theme is organization, and I'm sharing how I store and organize the craft supplies in my craft room. I have a whole Pinterest Board for colorful, crafty, and cool craft room storage ideas.

Sooooooooo I have a lot of craft supplies, especially yarn! As a military family, we move about every 3 years, and in our current home, I think my craft room is in what's supposed to be a dining room? But since the living room also has space for a dining room, we have our dining room set up in there, and I use the other space as my craft room. This room is much bigger than my previous craft room, which was actually a storage closet in the hallway. But I liked that smaller craft room better because  since it was small, I put paper on the walls, and I had a door that I could close and be all by myself. Anyhoo, but now I have more space to store my yarn stash, which just keeps growing!

I've considered buying shelves and creating a yarn wall, but I really have nowhere to put it, so I store my yarn in metal baskets and Ikea carts.

I try to group my yarn together by the brand. This is my cart full of Caron Simply Soft yarn. I plan on using it to make blankets to donate to the Navy-Marine Corps Budget for Baby class.

I use Ikea Spice Racks to store my paint, and my paintbrushes are stored in Rae Dunn planters in this faux window.

I found this wall shelf at Good Will a few years ago. I have stitch markers, buttons, clips, push pins, needles, and more in these jars. I also have my Knit Blockers on this shelf.

I keep my crochet and knit pattern books in the blue wall organizer on the left. I have some special discontinued yarn in the birdcage hanging from the ceiling.

I store my buttons, Sculpey clay, and mini pom poms in these tilt bins

This Pinterest Challenge motivated me to finally take all my mini pom poms out of their packages and put them in the storage bins. I store my extra crochet hooks, pens, and pencils in my Rae Dunn desk organizers.

The bins tilt out and are perfect for storing small craft supplies.

The bins are also removable. I love these school supply themed buttons

I've decorated my craft room with lots of Marilyn Monroe wall art. Before I got married, every room in my apartment had Marilyn Monroe on the walls. I've now decorated the house in a boho theme, and I keep Marilyn in my craft room. I also store craft supplies in my hutches. This hutch has a lot of Rae Dunn items on display. The cart in front of the hutch is full of Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarn. I use colorful jelly bags/totes to store my current works in progress.

When I saw this hutch at a local antique shop, I knew I wanted to fill it up with YARN! I keep my bigger skeins and balls of yarn in this hutch. I need to reorganize it. I'll get to it one day! The basket on top of the hutch has the yarn I use to crochet Pepperoni Pizza Scarves.

So that's the Sew Crafty Crochet craft room. I love metal carts, especially carts with wheels, so I'm using several to store my yarn. As I use up my yarn, the carts can be used to store other things like... crochet blankets!

  6. Wow! I am now very curious about those tilt out bins. I have so many small thing that I keep in zip top bags inside a box. I think the bins would make them easier to find/use.

  8. Your bins of yarn are art in themselves. Love the textures and colors. And those tilt bins are exactly what I wanted for my scrapbook embellishments. Ordered a rack with little compartments from Amazon but there is no back to the rack so the little compartments can be pushed all the way through the other side. No bueno. I have no wall area in my craft space so my rack with bins sits on the floor. Would much prefer this fabulous rack you have.
