I have decided to use up some of my yarn stash by crocheting baby blankets to donate to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society for their Budget for Baby Program. My husband and I attended the class back in 2011 when I was pregnant with our first child. The class provides information on ways to save and to develop a budget including the costs of baby items, and attendees receive a Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society layette gift, which includes a handmade baby blanket. So I decided that making baby blankets for this program would be a great way to use up some of my yarn stash and to give back to my military community.
I decided that I wanted to use up my I Love This Yarn in Blue Camo Stripe. I really enjoyed making the Wild Flower Winds Baby Blanket with the Frankenyarn Blanket Pattern with the I Love This Yarn Wild Flower Winds yarn, so I decided to use that pattern again.
I had to start by making squares. I made sure to make some squares with the darker colors and some with the lighter colors in the yarn.
After I crocheted the squares, I joined them using the continuous join as you go method. That's the fun part! I used stitch markers to mark the tops of the squares to make sure I joined them all correctly.
I added a pom pom border after I finished joining all the squares.
I really like this border on baby blankets.
