Welcome to the March Upcycle Challenge! For this month's challenge, I've decided to sew a crochet hook case using a pair of jeans that my son has outgrown. One of my favorite fabrics to work with is denim! I just love denim projects, and I have a whole Pinterest board full of denim creations called Denim Delights. I received a Furls Crochet Hook as a gift for Valentine's Day, and I decided to make a case for it.
My 6 year old son has outgrown these size 6 jeans, so I decided to use them for this project.
I decided that I wanted to add a faux fur lining to my crochet hook case, so I found this brown faux fur in my stash that I used years ago for another denim upcycle project, Denim Patchwork Mackinaw Coat.
I cut off one pant leg. I like the designs in these Moto jeans.
I folded the denim to figure out how I wanted it, so I could know where to sew.
I glued the faux fur into place with Aleene's Quick Dry Fabric Fusion.
I sewed the case with the denim thread first. Later, I go around it again with the gold thread.
I decided to add a belt loop.
I added magnet snap buttons. The hook fits perfectly inside.
I think Bernie approves...
This hook case is ready to be put to good use.
Thanks so much for checking out my upcycle project! Please scroll below to check out the projects created by the other blog hop hosts!
MEET THIS MONTH'S HOSTS:
UPCYCLE CHALLENGE:
It's nice to have a special case for a special hook. I really love the way you used the details from the jeans for your case. Denim is one of my favourite fabrics for upcycling projects too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You create the coolest things with denim!
DeleteI love how you cut the pleated part of the jeans! It makes your case look very chic! That idea would also make a cute clutch! pinning -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! And that's a great idea!
DeleteThis is such useful way to use fabric from the old jeans. Your Bernie doll looking on is great! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Bernie is always watching. I think he's my supervisor... lol
DeleteLove this, T'onna! What a great item to recycle/upcycle! I'm glad you were able to make something nice with those jeans! They look too good not to do something creative with them!
ReplyDeleteThanks! My son grows out of his clothes so fast that oftentimes, they're still in really great condition. Sometimes I put them aside for a yard sale or sell them on Poshmark, but I decided to use this pair for this project.
DeleteI love working with old jeans bu have never combine it with faux fur. I love the combination of textures.
ReplyDeleteDenim and faux fur are such a fun combo. I added faux fur to a denim coat I made for my son when he was a toddler. I wish he could still wear it, but he outgrew it a long time ago. lol
DeleteWhat cute jeans to begin with!! Made the perfect case! I see ole Bernie in your pics again :) Thanks so much for linking up with me at A Themed Linkup 48 for Crafts and DIY. Pinned!
