My favorite crochet designer Twinkie Chan recently released a pattern for a crochet Avocado Scarf, so I had to get it and make this scarf! I've never even eaten an avocado before. 😁 Maybe I'll try one soon... Anyhoo, since my favorite color is green, I really enjoy projects that allow me to work with my favorite color. And I'm always looking for fun new patterns to try, so I hope Twinkie Chan keeps those fun scarf patterns coming!
For this project, I used Loops and Threads Impeccable Grass, Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Fern, Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Black, and Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Honey.
This scarf features several avocado halves. The base of each avocado is the same, except for the one black avocado. Some have an avocado pit and some have a C shape to represent the other half where the pit was.
I crocheted the pit with Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Honey yarn. The pits are stuffed. You can stuff it with Poly-Fil or scrap yarn.
I sewed the avocados together with the black yarn. The stuffed pits give the scarf a 3-D vibe. 😁
The pattern says to use a size 5mm crochet hook, but I used a 4.5 mm hook instead, and I crochet really tight, so I made a couple extra avocados to achieve the desired length. With 13 avocados, the scarf turned out to be about 70 inches long and 4 inches wide (at the widest part of the avocado).
Of the 13 avocados, there are 6 avocado halves with 3-D pits, 6 avocado halves without pits, and 1 black "whole" avocado.
After crocheting this scarf, I listed it in my Etsy shop. It sold immediately, so I'll probably make another really soon. You can follow me on Instagram to keep up with what I'm currently working on. Thanks for stopping by!
