Three-Strip Flower Scarf

Lately, I've been exploring the crochet pattern book collection at my local library, and I came across a book (Vogue® Knitting on the Go! Crocheted Scarves Two)with a scarf pattern that I absolutely love.  Sometimes when I check out books, I'll crochet a project in the book, and sometimes I don't! But this time, I did. I was excited to try something new, especially since I knew this project would be perfect for the September Sustainable Craft Challenge. This month's theme is Nature, and the scarf I'm sharing has lots of crochet flowers and leaves.

SUPPLIES:
The Caron Cakes Pistachio yarn has different shades of green, and I separated them into balls. For the strips of the scarf, I will used the darkest shade of green and the medium shade of green from the Caron Cakes Pistachio yarn. I also used Vanna's Choice Chocolate.

I crocheted the strips of the scarf with a 4mm crochet hook.

I laid out the strips on my blocking mats.

Then I stitched the strips together where they touch.

Once I finished crocheting the three strips, I followed the pattern in the book to crochet the flowers using Caron Simply Soft GoldCaron Simply Soft OrchidCaron Simply Soft PersimmonCaron Simply Soft Ocean, and Caron Simply Soft Plum Perfect yarns.

I crocheted leaves with the darkest green from the Pistachio Caron Cake and the Vanna's Choice Chocolate yarn.

Next, I added glass beads to the flowers and leaves. I used 4mm Glass Beads and
Clear Nylon Thread. At first, I used the bead needle, but then I switched to a regualr sewing needle because it as easier to push through layers of yarn.

Some flowers have one bead and some have three.

Next, I used a yarn needle to sew the flowers and leaves onto the scarf.

The flowers and leaves are sewn onto the ends of the scarf. The middle portion doesn't have any flowers or leaves.

This scarf is 76 inches long and 9.5 inches wide at it's widest point.

Since it's long, it's perfect for wrapping around your neck on a chilly fall day, which we have plenty of chilly fall days out here in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my Nature inspired Three-Strip Flower Scarf, which I'm sharing for the September Sustainable Craft Challenge Blog Hop! The purpose of the Sustainable Craft Challenge Blog Hop (hosted by Julie @ Sum of Their Stories) is to create a sustainable/eco-friendly craft project. This month's theme is Nature, so I created this very fun and unique scarf featuring crochet flowers and leaves ussing yarn I already had in my stash. Crochet is considered slow fashion, which is more sustainable/eco-friendly than fast fashion. Anyhoo, I hope you'll visit the other participant's crafty, eco-friendly Nature creations below! ↓

  1. Oh my goodness, that is SO pretty. I love a crochet flower so this is right up my street! Using the library for craft books is such a great idea. We used the library a lot when my kids were small but I forget it's a great place to adults too.

    1. Thanks so much! I instantly fell in love with the pattern when I saw the picture of the scarf in the crochet book. They used a few different colors though. I definitely plan to make another soon. We go to the library often during the summer. We don't go as often during the school year because the kids use their school libraries. I've found several great crochet books at the library, and I eventually buy the books that I really fall in love with.
