For several years now, I've had a Seahawks themed Christmas tree. Each year I buy and make a few new Seahawks themed ornaments to add to our tree. So I decided to take a few old scratched up Christmas ornaments and turn them into crochet baubles with blue, green, and silver yarn. The yarn that I used has been in my stash for years. I used a skein of Red Heart Sports Team yarn and Red Heart Metallic yarn to create these fun baubles.
SUPPLIES:
old Christmas ornaments
Red Heart yarn
scissors
yarn scraps
3.5mm crochet hook
yarn needle
Merry & Bright Christmas Baubles pattern (Lovedotty Crochet)
Crochet Christmas Baubles pattern (Crochetpedia)
Boho Christmas Crochet Baubles pattern (Annie Design Crochet)
I found several old ornaments stored in a bin in my garage, and I selected a few to turn into crochet baubles.
I used the skein of green and navy blue yarn to crochet these ornaments. I was going to use the gray and blue skein as well, but I decided to use sparkly silver yarn instead.
First, I crocheted a couple baubles using the Boho Christmas Crochet Baubles pattern. I made sure the opening would fit around the top of the ornament.
Creating the bobbles was fun. I alternated the green and navy yarns.
Once the top was finished, I crocheted the bottom portion of the bauble.
I used a yarn needle to stitch the two halves together around the ornament.
Ta-Da! I created two of these fun Boho Christmas Baubles.
I also crocheted a couple baubles with the Merry & Bright Christmas Baubles pattern. I crocheted these with the navy, green, and silver yarns.
I put the two crochet halves around the ornament.
Then I used my yarn needle to whip stitch the halves together.
The halves are all stitched together.
Ta-Da! I made 2. 😁
Lastly, I made two baubles using the Crochet Christmas Baubles pattern.
This bauble is stuffed instead of using an ornament, so I stuffed it with yarn scraps from the previous baubles I made.
Stuffed!
Once the bauble was full, I closed it up and crocheted a loop for hanging.
Again... I made 2! 😀
Here are all the upcycled baubles. I can't wait to add them to our Seahawks themed Christmas tree. I usually wait until Thanksgiving to put up our Christmas tree. 🎄
Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my Upcycled Christmas Baubles, which I'm sharing for the November Sustainable Craft Challenge Blog Hop! The purpose of the Sustainable Craft Challenge Blog Hop (hosted by Julie @ Sum of Their Stories) is to create a sustainable/eco-friendly craft project. This month's theme is Christmas, so I gave some old scratched up Christmas ornaments a makeover by turning them into crochet baubles, and I created some crochet baubles that I filled with yarn scraps, so that no yarn is wasted! Anyhoo, I hope you'll visit the other participants' crafty, eco-friendly Christmas creations below! ↓

Each of these ornaments is just fabulous. I love crochet baubles but haven't made any for a few years, you've made me want to make some more! I remember how much fun it was to slip the old scratched baubles into their new cosy yarn "jackets" :-D
ReplyDeleteI also love the way you stuffed some of the baubles just with the left over yarn scraps, very "waste not want not". I bet your tree looks great in these colours!
Thanks so much! I look forward to decorating our tree with the new baubles. You should definitely make some soon! They're such a fun and quick project. I love that you called them yarn jackets! 😁
DeleteAnother gorgeous and impressive creation, T'onna! And I'm sure fun to make - that is, if one can crochet, lol! All kidding aside, I know these cuties will look spectacular on your tree along with the other beauties you've made!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gail! They are a lot of fun to make! I can't wait to decorate the tree with my kiddos.
DeleteThese look fabulous. Such individual baubles too - you could make them for any theme you liked. I love using up the scraps to fill another one!
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I love your dedication to the Seahawks! They do have an excellent color combo. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteT'onna, your baubles turned out lovely. I love that you all have a Seahawks Christmas-themed tree, how fun! These will be so pretty on your tree. Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Oh wow, what a great idea! We are Packers fans in my house, and I haven't done a Packers tree. This might be a good way to start.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique and beautiful way to upcycle old Christmas ornaments. These are absolutely beautiful...and you are so good at explaining how to create this beautiful DIY work of art!
ReplyDeleteYour upcycled ornaments look great. I just recently added a Pinterest crochet board (because "one day" I'm going to learn) so I've pinned your ornaments. Great idea to use leftover yarn bits for stuffing.
